¿A que no sabéis quién guió a los aviones de la OTAN en misión CAS? ¿Quién tiene tropas en esa zona con capacidad para guiar aviones hacia sus objetivos?

Kabul, 2 jun (EFE).- Al menos 46 supuestos talibanes murieron y otros 30 resultaron heridos en el transcurso de un ataque insurgente contra puestos de Policía en el noroeste de Afganistán, informó hoy a Efe una fuente policial.

Unos 200 supuestos talibanes atacaron anoche los puestos policiales en el distrito de Bala Mughab, situado en la provincia noroccidental de Badghis, según el portavoz de la Policía en el noroeste, Abdul Raouf Ahmadi.

"Durante la lucha que tuvo lugar en el pueblo de Mori Chaq, 46 talibanes murieron y más de treinta resultaron heridos", dijo Ahmadi.

En el transcurso del combate murió además un policía y cuatro miembros de las fuerzas de seguridad resultaron heridos.

Los enfrentamientos, de varias horas, contaron además con la participación de la aviación de la OTAN, que bombardearon las posiciones de los insurgentes.

España tiene un Equipo Provincial de Reconstrucción en la capital de la región de Badghis desde mayo de 2005.

Los combates entre las fuerzas internacionales y afganas y la insurgencia talibán son constantes, en especial en el tercio meridional de Afganistán, donde los talibanes tienen mayor presencia.

En Afganistán han muerto unas 1.000 personas víctimas de la violencia en lo que va de año, tanto en ataques y atentados talibanes como en operaciones de las fuerzas internacionales.

AFP - Afghan security forces under attack in northwestern Afghanistan called in NATO air strikes in heavy clashes that left dozens of Taliban fighters dead, authorities said Monday.

The deputy governor of Badghis province, Abdul Ghani Saber, told AFP that around 55 Taliban were killed in the fighting late Sunday.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed that it had carried out air strikes in the area and said its information was that 10 insurgents had been killed.

The clash was in the remote Bala Murghab district, near the border with Turkmenistan, and it was impossible to independently verify the death toll.

"Yesterday, about 300 to 400 Taliban attacked our police posts in Bala Murghab district. With the help of coalition air support, we killed about 55 Taliban," Saber said.

The toll was based on intelligence from the area, he said. Some of the bodies had also been recovered.

A regional police spokesman, Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, said his information was that "about 46 Taliban were killed and more than 30 others have been wounded."

The ISAF media office in Kabul said the force had sent in aircraft after an attack on police.

"There was an attack on a police station and we supported with air power during the night. As far as we know, we have 10 insurgents killed," an official said.

The Taliban were in government between 1996 and 2001, when they were ousted in an invasion led by the United States weeks after the 9/11 attacks blamed on Al-Qaeda leaders who then had bases in Afghanistan.

They are waging an intensifying insurgency that is focussed on the southern and eastern borders with Pakistan, where militants are alleged to have sanctuaries.

But Badghis and the neighboring province of Farah have seen a spike in unrest in recent months.

NATO military aircraft supported Afghan police in a 12-hour firefight in western Afghanistan that killed at least 10 militants, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said Monday.

Afghan officials claimed a much higher death toll, saying dozens of militants were killed.

A spokesman for the police in western Afghanistan, Haji Raouf Ahmedi, said 150 militants attacked a police checkpoint Sunday, triggering the daylong battle in Murghab district, near the border with Turkmenistan.

Ahmedi said 46 militants were killed and 30 wounded, though he said police recovered the bodies of only five militants. Asked how he knew 46 were killed, Ahmedi replied, "We have reports."

Ahmedi said one policeman was also killed.

The governor of Badghis province, Ashraf Nasery, said 49 militants were killed and 35 wounded. He attributed the death toll to "intelligence reports."

He labeled the militants "the enemies of Afghanistan" but offered no more clues as to who they were.

A spokesman for NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Kabul said the alliance had reports of 10 militants killed in the battle. He said ISAF media rules prevented him from giving his name.

It was not possible to get independent confirmation of the toll at the remote battle site. Afghan officials have on occasions in the past exaggerated militant death tolls.

It was the second time in two days that Afghan officials made claims of large numbers of militant deaths. On Sunday, the Interior Ministry said Afghan forces had killed more than 100 militants in a three-day fight in Farah province, but no officials could say how they reached that toll and two admitted that no bodies were left on the battlefield to count.

But the fighting in the two remote areas of the country — in Badghis and Farah — could signal a new strategy by militants to attack areas where NATO and U.S. forces have little presence.

The majority of NATO's fighting forces are centered in the southern and eastern parts of Afghanistan, far from the attacks in Badghis and Farah. NATO and U.S. troops are in the country to battle Taliban militants trying to bring down the government of President Hamid Karzai.

Militant fighters the last two years have stepped up attacks on the country's fledgling police, who have little training and weaponry. Last year more than 900 police were killed in militant attacks.

Importante operación anti-droga en Afganistán:

British and Afghan counter-narcotics officers have found and destroyed a massive stockpile of 237 tonnes of hashish with a wholesale value of £205 million.

The Afghan National Police Special Task Force received a tip-off on Monday morning about a possible drugs hoard some 25 miles from the border with Pakistan in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar Province.

The task force found the drugs cache hidden in three trenches.

"There was a recce to the site to get a grip on how large the cache was," said an ISAF spokesman. "Then, in the evening, they set it on fire. Most of those involved in the breakthrough were on the Afghan side but there were British troops too since the UK is focused on counter-narcotics."

"The growing season is over and the trading season is just getting going," said the spokesman. He added that there had been an increase in hashish trading following the anti-opium policy.

Nato hailed the drugs swipe as a significant victory against the Taleban. A large portion of the world's opium comes from Afghanistan, and the Taleban is thought to use opium sales and smuggling to buy weapons.

“With this single find, they have seriously crippled the Taleban’s ability to purchase weapons that threaten the safety and security of the Afghan people and the region," said General David McKiernan, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) commander.

“The Afghan National Police Special Task Force has made a huge step forward in proving its capability in curbing the tide of illegal drug trade in this country."

The hashish weighed approximately the same as 30 double-decker buses. ISAF officials estimate the Taliban would have pocketed around £7 million from the sale of the drugs.

“We, here at the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, note the continuing improvements and professionalism of our Afghanistan National Police,” said Lieutenant General Ab-Hadi Khalid, Afghan Deputy Interior Minister.

“It is due to the education and training they are receiving through the help of the international community.”

The Ministry of Interior also reported that in a separate recent counter-narcotics operation in Helmand province, the Afghan National Police seized about 5,108 grams of opium, with an estimated value of £15 million, and arrested 13 drug dealers.

“The international community will continue to support the Afghan forces with more of the same training and support that helped them achieve such success in this mission,” said General McKiernan.

NATO-led and British forces called the incident the biggest narcotics haul in history.

El ataque a la prisión consistió en:

-Camión bomba (suicida) en la puerta principal
-Terrorista suicida en la parte trasera
-Lanzamiento de RPG
-En total según un portavoz talibán, 30 talibanes armados y en moto, y los 2 suicidas

6 insurgentes muertos y 6 detenidos en un ataque a tropas españolas, a 55 kilómetros al este de Qala i naw. Sin heridos en nuestras filas, y la novedad es que parece que entre la policia afgana tampoco. Por fin no se han llevado los palos.

Por otra parte, ya empiezan a caer los fugados de la carcel de Kandahar. A fecha de ahora ya han re-detenido a más de 20 y otros tantos insurgentes han muerto. Pero teniendo a 800-1100 (parece mentira que todavia no sepan a cuanta gente tenían en la prisión) fugados por la zona, seguro que los próximos dias van a ser muy moviditos en cuanto a detenciones y golpes a la insurgencia.

Me imagino que si acudió el elemento aéreo de la OTAN, nuevamente los ACAF habrán estado en la zona.

Ya sabes lo que opino de el calificativo de Misiones Humanitarias y de Paz... y concretamente en Afganistán, donde sin seguridad es impensable que haga una reconstrucción positiva.

De todas maneras parece que la dirección del Gobierno y el Ministerio de Defensa se están dando cuenta de lo que pasa, aunque se siga con una política de censura total en ZO. Date cuenta que en dos semanas nos hemos llevado por delante a más de 6 decenas de talibanes/criminales.

Esto es bueno además para aprender de errores y posibilitar nuevas doctrinas en ambientes contrainsurgentes.

Militares españoles salen ilesos de un ataque en Afganistán

Una patrulla del Ejército español fue atacada ayer por la tarde en Afganistán por un grupo de insurgentes, lo que provocó un enfrentamiento que terminó sin ningún soldado español herido, pero con seis muertos y seis heridos en el bando insurgente, informó a Europa Press un portavoz del Ministerio de Defensa.

Los hechos ocurrieron en Khayrkhana, a 55 kilómetros al este de la base española de Qala i Naw, cuando un grupo de insurgentes atacaron con disparos de fusil a los militares españoles, desplegados en esta zona en una misión de apoyo a la policía afgana.
Aviones de la ISAF para disuadir a los atacantes

Al ataque por sorpresa respondieron los soldados españoles y los agentes de la policía afgana, mientras que la OTAN envió dos aviones de la ISAF para disuadir a los atacantes, de los que se desconoce su procedencia.

El incidente se saldó con seis fallecidos y seis heridos del lado insurgente, así como con un número de detenciones que no ha sido especificado por el Ministerio de Defensa.

La patrulla española atacada forma parte de Equipo de Reconstrucción Provincial (PRT, en sus siglas en inglés) de Qala i Naw, en Afganistán.
