La primera de una nueva serie de medallas civiles ha sido entregada a título póstumo a un británico, que murió en Irak en un atentado terrorista suicida. Nic Crouch, de 29 años, que formó parte del regimiento paracaidista, trabajaba para Aegis.

The Civilian Service Medal recalls his service as a private security worker in the Middle East - and sees the fulfilment of a wish he penned in a poignant letter to his parents in north Norfolk in case he was killed.

After Mr Crouch died, aged just 29, in a suicide car bomb blast in Iraq in July 2010, his family received a letter saying: “If I should be killed in Afghanistan/Iraq and the media is interested, I should like them to know how I and all the other former soldiers contributed to the Great Game.

“I seek no personal glory, but many good Paras and ex-Servicemen have died supporting these operations with little or no recognition of their bravery.”

EU to spend €50mn on private security in Afghanistan

The EU’s external action service (EEAS) plans to spend up to €50 million on private security guards for its Afghanistan mission over the next four years.
The EEAS unveiled the tender on Thursday (10 May), saying the money would be spent on “protection of staff, their families in the country, visitors from headquarters or other EU institutions, the premises and the goods of the EU delegation in Afghanistan.”
The contract – valued at between €30 million and €50 million plus VAT – is to cover at least 100 security guards, as well as “mobile patrol teams, equipment [and] armoured cars.”
It is aiming to sign up a big company with prior experience in Afghanistan – the winning bidder must have an annual turnover of at least €20 million and 400 staff.

Five companies are eligible to compete – the Hungarian-based Argus, Canada’s Gardaworld, British firms G4S and Page Group, and French company Geos – after getting on an EEAS private security shortlist last year.

Military News: Private Contractors Key To UK Army, Says Philip Hammond

The British army will have to rely more on part-time reserves and private contractors, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond is expected to say later.
In a speech to military experts, he is due to say the future will involve “thinking innovatively about how combat service support is provided”.
Under the Strategic Defence and Security Review the Army will shrink from 102,000 to 82,000 troops by 2020.
Mr Hammond says there will be “difficult” decisions ahead.
BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner said the speech at the annual Land Warfare Conference in London will give some clues as to how this rebalancing will be achieved, ahead of a full announcement later this month.
Mr Hammond is expected to tell an audience at the Royal United Services Institute there will be a need to use “more systematically the skills available in the reserve and from our contractors”.
Our correspondent says: “A total of £1.8bn is to be invested in the reserve forces, with a focus on certain niche areas such as cyber warfare, medical and intelligence.”

Esto de momento es un rumor, pero que está sonando con fuerza en las arenas de Iraq.

El GoI planea "banear" a todas las empresas de seguridad que hayan trabajado para el US Army.
Veremos con el tiempo si esto se confirma o es otro farol más para sacar tajada.

De momento siguen ralentizando mucho el papeleo de las PSCs, visas, permisos,etc... Cosa que no pasa con otro tipo de empresas (Petroleras sobre todo )

El Departamento de Seguridad Nacional de EEUU ha informado del asesinato de tres contratistas (dos estadounidenses y un británico) en Afganistan destinados a labores de instrucción del ejército afgano.

The victims were Benjamin Monsivais, a former US Border Patrol and retired Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent; Joseph Perez, a retired US Customs and Border Protection port director; and retired British customs officer David Chamberlain, DHS said in a statement.

NATO and Afghan officials said Sunday that the three, who were working for NATO as trainers, were killed when a man in an Afghan security force uniform turned his weapon against them.

Malos tiempos para g4s en Pakistán.

La compañía, que opera bajo el nombre de Wackenhut Pakistán Ltd, ha acordado vender el negocio a su presidente en la región por alrededor de 10 millones de dólares. G4S, la mayor empresa mundial de seguridad, emplea a 10.000 personas en Pakistán, donde se proporciona seguridad a la ONU y a corporaciones multinacionales.

Los analistas han declarado que la posición de Pakistán hacia la inversión extranjera en materia de seguridad se ha endurecido desde principios de 2011 tras la detención de Raymond Davis, un trabajador del consulado de los EE.UU., acusado de disparar contra dos ciudadanos paquistaníes.
