Four security guards were killed and 10 others, including civilians, injured when three suicide attackers stormed a private security company's guesthouse at around 4 am on Tuesday in the northrern province of Kunduz, officials said.

One of the suicide bombers detonated his explosives-packed car at the gate of the guest house, killing four guards of KABOORA -- a private company providing security for the German aid organization GIZ -- and injuring 10 other people in Kunduz City, deputy provincial police chief Col. Abdul Rahman Aqtash told Pajhwok Afghan News.

After the explosion two other assailants entered the compound and battled security guards for three hours, he said.

Seven dead bodies, including three bombers, and 10 injured were taken to Kunduz hospital, an emergency ward doctor, Safiullah, said.

A female doctor and civilians living in nearby houses were among the injured. Three of them are in critical condition, he added.

"I heard gunshots after a heavy explosion this morning," said Najibullah, a resident of the area whose hand was injured.

After the explosion, the guesthouse caught fire, but the area was cordoned off by police, he said. A building belonging to Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency was destroyed in the explosion, and nearby houses were damaged, he said.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the Taliban had attacked a joint intelligence centre of German and Afghan security personnel. He said that 35 Afghan and foreign soldiers were killed in assault carried out by their three fighters.

Localizados, eliminados, 38 compañeros vengados:
ISAF Joint Command - Afghanistan
2011-08-S-025
For Immediate Release

KABUL, Afghanistan (Aug. 10, 2011) – Coalition forces killed the Taliban insurgents involved with the recent downing of the CH-47 helicopter, with a precision airstrike in Chak district, Wardak province, yesterday.

The strike killed Taliban leader Mullah Mohibullah and the insurgent who fired the shot associated with the Aug. 6 downing of the CH-47 helicopter, which resulted in the deaths of 38 Afghan and coalition service members.

Mullah Mohibullah was a key facilitator in an insurgent attack cell led by Din Mohammad, a Taliban leader killed in a previous Special Operations mission. As a leader in Mohammad’s network in Tangi valley, Mohibullah had as many as 12 Taliban fighters under his command, including potential suicide bombers.

On the night of the crash, the inbound CH-47 carried Special Operations Forces intended to pursue insurgents from Mohammad’s network that were fleeing an engagement in which six militants had already been killed. While it has not been determined if enemy fire was the sole reason for the helicopter crash, it did take fire from several insurgent locations on its approach.

After an exhaustive manhunt, Special Operations forces located Mullah Mohibullah and the shooter after receiving multiple intelligence leads and tips from local citizens. The two men were attempting to flee the country in order to avoid capture.

The security force located and followed the insurgents to a wooded area in Chak district. After ensuring no civilians were in the area, the force called for the airstrike which resulted in the deaths of the Mullah Mohibullah, the shooter, and several of their Taliban associates.

The security force assesses no civilians were harmed during the strike.

QALA-I-NAW/MAIMANA (PAN): Groups of government opponents joined the peace process in northern Badghis and Faryab province, Col. Abubakar, deputy chief of the National Directorate of Security, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In Badghis, the men were from the Bala Murghab district, he said, adding that the fighters were accompanied by their commander Abdullah. Col. Abubakar added that they handed over 17 weapons including a rocket-propelled grenade.

Since March 2011, 782 armed men have joined the government peace process in the same province.

Elsewhere in the country six other armed groups joined the peace process in Faryab province, according to governor Abdul Safaq, adding that their commander was Mohammad Ali.

He also said the fighters reconciled with the government through the mediation of Fatehullah, the provincial representative of the Wolesi Jirga.

He urged the government to provide working facilities for him and his men.
