The Taliban leader is the shadow governor of the Jawand District. He is also responsible for providing improvised explosive devices for use in Kabul against Afghan and coalition forces and commands approximately 60 insurgents who are responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
The joint force searched the target village, calling out to the inhabitants. This resulted in 15 women and 45 children being protected and five suspected insurgents being detained.
During the search of the village, the patrol found one loaded AK-47, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher, four RPGs and 200 rounds of ammunition.
As the patrol finished searching the village, they were engaged with heavy small-arms fire from the mountains above them. The patrol called in air support, resulting in 16 insurgents killed and seven wounded.
Initial reports indicate no civilians were injured during the mission.
Afghan troops kill 5 Taliban insurgents including shadowy governor
HERAT, Afghanistan, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Security forces raided a Taliban position in the northwest Badghis province killing five militants including a shadowy provincial governor on Wednesday, spokesman for provincial administration said.
"The operation backed by NATO-led troops conducted early morning today as a result five Taliban rebels including Mohammad Ismael the shadow governor of Taliban in Badghis province were killed," Sharafudin Majidi told Xinhua.
The operation, he added took place in Balamirghab district.
Balamirghab district has been regarded as the hotbed of Taliban militants in Badghis province 330 km northwest of capital city Kabul.
Taliban militants have yet to make comment.

NATO says Mullah Jamaluddin was killed in a joint operation with Afghan forces on Saturday. He was believed to have been a candidate to become the Taliban's "shadow governor" (provincial chief) in Badghis province, after Afghan and coalition forces killed the Taliban's previous provincial chief on Wednesday.

Mullah Jamaluddin had facilitated the improvised explosive device and weapons movement throughout Badghis province The Afghan and coalition force's deliberate campaign to disrupt Taliban operations in Badghis and neighboring Faryab provinces has resulted in six Taliban senior leaders killed, including the shadow governors for Badghis and Faryab provinces, and one captured, during several operations over the last two weeks.
"The Taliban has unsuccessfully attempted to establish illegal, shadow governments in northern Afghanistan," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "These operations are significantly reducing Taliban influence throughout the region and returning it to the people of Afghanistan and the legitimate government they elected."
Intelligence sources tracked Mullah Jamaluddin traveling in Morghab district. Three armed individuals threatened the security force during the operation.
The security force responded, killing Mullah Jamaluddin and his two accomplices. After the area was secure, the security force searched the area and positively identified Mullah Jamaluddin.

HERATCITY (PAN): Nine Taliban militants, including a commander, were killed in an airstrike by NATO-led troops in western Herat province on Monday, officials said.
The air raid was carried out in the Tagap Yari village of Oba district, said police spokesman Noor Khan Nekzad.
He identified the dead militant commander as Mullah Ghausuddin, also known as Sia Khan. He said the commander was involved in insurgent activities in the province. There was no word from ISAF forces about the airstrike
