RAW: India's External Intelligence Agency

India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), has long faced allegations of meddling in its neighbors' affairs. Founded in 1968, primarily to counter China's influence, over time it has shifted its focus to India's other traditional rival, Pakistan. RAW and Pakistan's spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), have been engaged in covert operations against one other for over three decades. The ongoing dispute in Kashmir continues to fuel these clashes, but experts say Afghanistan may be emerging as the new battleground. Islamabad sees India's growing diplomatic initiatives in Afghanistan as a cover for RAW agents working to destabilize Pakistan. It accuses RAW of training and arming separatists in Pakistan's Balochistan Province along the Afghan border. RAW denies these charges, and in turn, accuses the ISI of the July 2008 bombing of the Indian embassy in Kabul.

Sleuths from India to quiz JeM ultras in B’desh

NEW DELHI: A team of sleuths from the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) will soon visit Dhaka to interrogate five Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists to ascertain their role in the terrorist activities in India.
The terrorists who were held in Bangladesh include Belal Mondal alias Nanu Miyan Ilyas, suspected to have a role in the blasts in several Indian cities.
These people were nabbed by Bangladesh’s elite Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) intelligence wing in a swoop on Sukanya Tower, located at Mirpur Road in Dhaka.
Besides Mondal, others arrested were Rizwan Ahmed, a Pakistani national from Karachi, Imazuddin alias Munna, Sadek Hossain alias Khoka and Abu Naser Munshi. Rizwan Ahmed has reportedly admitted that he was working as a coordinator for the JeM in Bangladesh and as a recruiting agent for conducting operations in India. Describing it as an important catch, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram clarified that the role of Mondal in IC-814 hijacking, reported widely by the media, seems to be exaggerated.
Mondal, however, is wanted in Bangalore and Surat blasts of 2008. Belal, who claims to be a native of north Bangladesh town Shylet, has an Indian wife, hailing from West Bengal.
